Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday paid homage to former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on his 93rd birth anniversary, praising his contributions to nation-building and the Indian economy.

In a post on X, Gandhi wrote, “On the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh ji, I pay my humble respects to him. His unwavering commitment to nation-building, his bold decisions for the poor and deprived, and his historic contribution to building a strong economy will continue to guide us. His simplicity, humility, and integrity are an inspiration for all of us.”

Born on September 26, 1932, Manmohan Singh was a distinguished economist who served as Governor of the Reserve Bank of India from 1982 to 1985, and as Finance Minister between 1991 and 1996, where he implemented landmark economic reforms that earned him global recognition. He went on to become India’s 13th Prime Minister, serving from 2004 to 2014.

Singh’s legacy includes transformative initiatives such as the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), later renamed MGNREGA, and the Right to Information Act (RTI) in 2005, which strengthened transparency and accountability in governance.

Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge also paid tribute, describing Singh as a man of humility and wisdom who carried himself with “quiet dignity.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi similarly remembered Singh, highlighting his enduring contributions to the nation.

Singh’s vision, simplicity, and integrity continue to inspire generations of Indians across the political spectrum.
